Protesting can often be against something and such negativity is self defeating. It deflects attention from the truth of what needs to happen. Here are two quotations which support this idea:
“Those who crusade, not for God in themselves, but against the devil in others, never succeed in making the world better, but leave it either as it was, or sometimes even perceptibly worse than it was, before the crusade began. By thinking primarily of evil we tend, however excellent our intentions, to create occasions for evil to manifest itself.”
Aldous Huxley
“He who fights with monsters should look to it that he himself does not become a monster . . . when you gaze long into the abyss the abyss also gazes into you” (Nietzsche).
