On Tuesday 6th August I represented Herefordshire Interfaith among a number of people commemorating the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Each year we meet at the cherry tree planted in Hereford cemetery and on most years the sun is shining as it was in Hiroshima on that fatal day. Tuesday was no exception.
Listen to the stillness.
So still, my heart is hesitating lest the next beat should be sacrilege.
Last night I dreamed
ten thousand grandmothers
from the twelve hundred corners of the earth
walked out into the gap
one breath deep
between the bullet and the flesh
Coming down
out of the freezing sky
with its depths of light,
like an angel,
or a buddha with wings,
it was beautiful
and accurate,
The most important principle of divine philosophy is the oneness of the world of humanity, the unity of mankind
Totally unexpected my guest arrived.
“Who is it?” asked my heart.
“The face of the moon,” said my soul.
