FREEDOM of the SPIRIT

The liberty that profiteth you is to be found nowhere except in complete servitude unto God the Eternal Truth.  Whoso hath tasted of its sweetness will refuse to barter it for all the dominion of earth and heaven.
~Baha’i Writings

Everything on the earth lives according to the law of Nature, and from that law emerges the glory and joy of liberty; but man is denied this fortune because he set for the God-forgiven soul a limited and earthly law of his own. He made for himself strict rules.  Man built for himself a narrow and painful prison in which he secluded his affections and his desires ….. Will man remain a slave of self-confinement until the end of the world?  Or will he be freed by the passing of time and live in the spirit for the spirit?  Will man insist on staring downwards and backwards at the earth?  Or will he turn his eyes towards the sun so that he will not see the shadow of his body amongst the skulls and thorns?
~ Kahlil Gibran

They are forever free who renounce all selfish desires and break away from the ego-cage of ‘I’, ‘me’ and ‘mine’ to be united with the Lord.  Attain to this and pass from death to immortality.
~Bhagavad Gita

…. And my philosophy means keeping that vital spark within you free from damage and degradation, using it to transcend pain and pleasure, doing everything with a purpose, avoiding lies and hypocrisy, not relying on another person’s actions or failings.  To accept everything that comes, and everything that is given, as coming from that same spiritual source.
So when death comes for me I shall meet it with a cheerful mind.  Since no harm comes to the elements when they continuously change from one to the other, why should I be afraid about the change and dissolution of my own elements?  For this is the way of Nature, and nothing is evil which comes from Nature.
~Marcus Aurelius

Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.
~St Paul  2 Corinthians 3:17

Just as the great oceans have but one taste, the taste of salt, so there is one taste fundamental to the teachings of the Way, and this is the taste of freedom.
~The Buddha

Eternal God,
The light of minds that know you,
The life of souls that love you,
The strength of wills that serve you,
Help us to know you that we may truly love you,
So to love you that we may truly serve you,
Whom to serve is perfect freedom.
~Pope Gelasius

In the deep cave of the heart, far down,
Running under the outward shows of the world and of people,
Running under geographies, continents, under the fields and the roots of the grasses and the trees, under the little thoughts and dreams of men, and the history of races,
Deep, far down, I see feel and hear wondrous and divine things,
Voices and faces are there; arms of lovers,

known and unknown, reach forward and fold me;
Words float, and fragrance of Time, and Life ever circling.
~Edward Carpenter
